What is SAD?
Are you or any of your Colleagues suffering from S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder)?
During the Winter months the decreased amount of daylight can lead to depression and other symptons of SAD in yourself and your colleagues in the office environment. If people don't feel well, then it's unlikely that you will get the best out of them.
At JK Electrical we can some way to alleviating this problem by changing the lighting colour and possibly adding more light. These specific lamps and colours are recognised medically......
Recommended Light Levels Indoor
When talking about the quality of light in a working environment, the question 'How much light?' is the first one to ask. There are recommendations as to what the minimal illuminance should be.
Lighting (illuminance) is measured in what is known as lux levels. The outdoor light level on a clear day is approximately 10,000 lux. Inside a building, the area closest to windows, the light level may be reduced to approximately 1,000 lux. In the middle area it's maybe as low as 25 - 50 lux.
So, additional lighting equipment is often necessary here to compensate the low levels. As a guide, general lighting for indoor work should have a lux level of between 250- 1000.
| Activity | Illumination (lux per/m2) |
| Small Warehouses, Homes | 150 |
| Easy Office Work, Classes | 250 |
| Normal Office Work, PC Work, Show Rooms, Laboratories | 500 |
| Supermarkets, Mechanical Workshops | 750 |
| Normal Drawing Work, Detailed Mechanical Workshops | 1,000 |
| Detailed Drawing Work, Very Detailed Mechanical Works | 1,500 - 2,000 |
At JK Electrical we have special equipment to measure lux levels and therefore can advise on where and by how much, you should increase lux levels within the workplace.
